I need to read more. I feel well-informed of current affairs from reading various news media, but I don’t read enough books. I used to love thumbing through books, especially historical fiction novels that had something to do with China and Mao’s Cultural Revolution. Now I spend the majority of my day at work staring at a computer screen, only to come home to stare at a computer screen perusing through different food-related websites, my blog, and anything else of interest.

Recently I took my dog Trudeau on an excursion to Dimple Dell Nature Park in Sandy, Utah. This adventure was extensively researched and pre-planned, by which I mean that I was looking for directions to somewhere else on Google Maps and found myself wondering what that big block of green was over there and whether it might be of some use to me in attempting to exhaust my dog, and so I decided to take him there completely on impulse.

The Minnesota River starts near the border of Minnesota and South Dakota. It flows southeast, then northeast, like a sort of backward check-mark on the lower half of Minnesota. The river is the southerly border of the City of Bloomington, a Minneapolis suburb, and shortly thereafter flows into the Mississippi. There are numerous paths along the river for hiking, biking, and horseback riding (and snowmobiling in the winter).

A National Geographic photo of three volcanoes:

“Mount Semeru, seen with an ash plume, is the highest volcano on the Indonesian island of Java and has been in a constant eruption since 1967. It lies at the southern end of the Tengger caldera, which contains smaller volcanoes Mount Bromo and Mount Batok (both seen in the foreground), and several others.”
